CPEC’s energy projects will not create a burden of debt on Pakistan. These energy projects are a mutual collaboration of Pakistani government and the Chinese investors.
In recent times, Zhao Lijian, spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, cleared in a press briefing that Pakistan will not get under the burden of any debt coming from the energy projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Some foreign media sources believed that Pakistan is struggling to repay Chinese loans, and soon the country will seek to reschedule as much as $22 billion in outstanding power sector credits.
In response to these questions, Zhao said that all these energy projects are funded by commercial investment or foreign direct investment.
I worked in Pakistan for years and have a good knowledge of energy projects under the CPEC,
He also added:
These projects create material economic and social benefits,
We’re confident China-Pakistan energy cooperation will continue to make greater contributions to Pakistan’s development and the improvement of livelihoods there,
