Shaheen responds to five-run penalty over change in ball’s situation

Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Shah Afridi (proper) celebrates taking a wicket throughout their PSL 11 match towards Karachi Kings on the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on March 29, 2026. — PSL

Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Shah Afridi stated on Sunday that he was unaware of the ball’s situation change that led to a five-run penalty throughout their Pakistan Tremendous League (PSL) 11 conflict towards Karachi Kings at Gaddafi Stadium at this time.

The incident occurred forward of the ultimate over of the Kings’ innings, because the on-field umpires analysed the ball and deemed that its situation was altered, which resulted in a five-run penalty for the fielding aspect.

The penalty introduced the equation down to simply 9 required off the ultimate over as an alternative of 14 for the Kings, and Abbas Afridi’s consecutive boundaries on the second and third deliveries, steering the 2020 champions to an enthralling four-wicket victory.

Though Shaheen expressed his disappointment over the umpires’ resolution once they slapped the house aspect with a penalty, he claimed to be unaware of the accusation, insisting that they’d talk about it.

“I don’t know about this [ball tampering], and we’ll discuss. Five runs penalty…but we can’t say anything. We will see,” stated Shaheen on the post-match presentation.

Reflecting on his workforce’s total efficiency, Shaheen argued that their batting unit did a good job, citing the Kings’ battle in chasing down the modest 129-run goal.

“It was a good game. We wanted to fight till the final ball, and the team tried. In both teams’ batting, it was the same. I feel our batting was fine, otherwise KK would’ve chased this in 15 overs,” the left-arm pacer confused.

Notably, the Kings’ sensational four-wicket victory within the recently-concluded fixture prolonged their head-to-head dominance over the Qalandars to 15-8.

When requested whether or not the Qalandars have any psychological block towards their conventional rivals, the Kings, Shaheen declined and as an alternative highlighted the workforce’s spirit to combat till the ultimate supply.

“No mental block. My team has fought till the last ball, that’s what I need from my team,” Shaheen concluded.
